I have no idea why I decided to draw the Penguin, lol. I was just in a mood I guess. I don't want to sound like I think my art is all that or anything, lol, but I LOVE the way this one turned out. I'm not sure why. Maybe it's because he ended up looking like someone I work with and it makes me laugh. :)

SKETCH A DAY 64: PRINCESS LEIA AND JABBA THE HUT
Since my Darth Maul sketch went over pretty well, I figured I'd take another stab at drawing another character from Star Wars. This time I decided to sketch Princess Leia in her slave outfit with Jabba thrown in to add a little, lol. Had a lot of fun drawing this one. I'm pretty happy with the results as it didn't even take me that long.

SKETCH A DAY 63: LUSIPHUR
This sketch is of the main character, Lusiphur, from the Indie Comic Poison Elves. I had always seen ads and read things about Poison Elves since I started reading comics, but I didn't try it out until a few years ago. Every so often I roam around my local comic store looking for something new to read and I came upon Poison Elves and figured I give it a try. I bought the first trade (which is huge!) and quickly feel in love with the series. I immediately got the other trades and eagerly awaited the next volume. The series was created, written and drawn by Drew Hayes. It was a one-man show and he did an awesome job at keeping readers attention. Sadly, as I awaited the next trade to come out, Drew passed away. His death was a huge lost for the Indie comic scene and even though I never had the opportunity to meet him, I did and will always admire him. It's hard work to self-publish, but it's even harder work to write and draw it too. But that's exactly what Drew did and I have wanted to at least do a pin-up of his main character, Lusiphur, as a tribute to him and all his work. If you're looking for something new and interesting to read, check out Poison Elves at [link]

SKETCH A DAY 60: VAMPIRELLA
Vampirella has been around for a long time, since before I was born I think, but she's always had the same sexy costume. I figured she'd be fun to draw and she was. I'm trying to do different things with the faces I draw (and with the hands) since a lot of my sketches have the same kind of look. Mainly I noticed the smile on the women I draw. I think she turned out pretty well.

SKETCH A DAY 59: DARTH MAUL
Darth Maul was suggested for me to draw by Luciano Vecchio. I hadn't really even thought of Star Wars characters to draw, so it was a good pick. I never realized that his costume was so dark and boring though, lol. I had fun with the face and think that looks good. The rest? Not so sure. He was fun to draw though and I did this one fairly quick.

SKETCH A DAY 57: TARZAN
I decided to try to do some characters that aren't superheroes and think this sketch of Tarzan came out pretty well. He might look a little too much like the Disney Tarzan, but that wasn't my plan at all. I think it's the dreadlocks. But if he was a real man living in the wild, he'd have them. When I thought of drawing him it kind of opened the door to a lot of other characters I hadn't thought of. That's good cause I needed a little bit of a change.

SKETCH A DAY 56: SKYLER HOPE
This sketch was done for my friend, Philip Clark, who is the creator and writer of the series "Quantum: Rock Of Ages". Philip is one of the first people I met on the Indie scene and he was a fountain of wisdom that was always happy to share his knowledge and help everyone. A rarity in the Indie scene. Oh yeah, lol, he's a kickass musician too. Philip used to live in NYC, but has since moved to California and is currently working on his music career. It sucks that he isn't in NYC any more, but he's doing well in Cali, so that's all that's important. Skyler Hope is one of the main character in Quantum and has the power to open portal to other worlds using her voice. If you're a fan of sci-fi stories, then you should check out Quantum at http://www.quantumcomic.net/. You won't be sorry!

ANOTHER NEVERMINDS PREVIEW
I know it's been a while since I posted any NEVERMINDS previews. Sorry about that. My main thing is I don't want to let out too much of the story before we have it out. But here is another character from the book to show. Her name is Marie Laveau and she plays a BIG part in the story. Awesome art by Jamie and Rey as usual. :)
SKETCH A DAY 55: NAMOR
I'm not a big fan of Namor really, I mean I'm more of a DC fan to begin with and think that Aquaman (when he had the hook!) was much cooler. But I think there's a lot of potential with Namor. There's been rumors for a long time about them making a film with him and I actually think it could work. I decided to draw him because I've been drawing so many ladies lately that I felt I had to throw in some beefcake too, lol.

SKETCH A DAY 54: WONDER WOMAN
I know that all I've been posting lately is my "sketch a day" pics and I apologize for that. I hope to show some new previews for projects soon. I'll do another sneak of NEVERMINDS tomorrow. We're all working hard on everything though and have been really busy. In the meanwhile, I've just been trying to at least post some of my sketches. I've been avoiding drawing any of the big iconic characters, mainly because I just didn't think I was good enough to do them justice. I tried doing Captain America when I first started and it was just plain bad. Anyway, lol, I figured I'd give one of the big names a try now that I felt more confident. I'm pretty happy with the way Wonder Woman turned out.

SKETCH A DAY 53: CATWOMAN
Another sketch of a DC character. Sorry, guess I was on a rol with them, lol. When I started this sketch, I really wasn't sure which Catwoman costume I was going to draw. I liked a lot of them over the years. This was originally going to be the Batman Returns movie version of her, but then I thought the stitching wasn't working with my style and the pose. So I decided to just make it black and add the tail. Gotta love the tail, lol.

SKETCH A DAY 52: OBSIDIAN
I'm back on track with my "sketch a day" now and I actually really liked the way this one came out. Obsidian is a DC character from Infinity Inc./JSA/Manhunter. I always thought he had a cool costume and powers back when he was first introduced in the 80s. But seeing it without the shadow effect, I also remember thinking it was awful looking, lol. As long as he keeps the powers on, it's still cool though. With Manhunter cancelled, I figured Obsidian was going into comic limbo. Even with his JSA membership, they never really even used him and they have too large a cast. But the new writers on JSA say that they have plans for him and that he's a fav of theirs. Sounds good to me. Hopefully he'll start appearing some more.

SKETCH A DAY 51: WONDERGIRL
The last week was a bit busy and I didn't get to post too much. With moving, work and trying to finish different projects and stuff, I just didn't have the time. I'm pretty much caught up on everything now and getting back to normal. I did a bunch of sketches that I think turned out well. Here's the first one, Wondergirl. Since I've drawn so many of the current Teen Titans team, I figured I had to get Cassie done too. I tried to do something more action-ish and also something different with the hair. I don't think I like the WW on her costume though, lol.
To update on NEVERMINDS, Jamie is moving along with the art and Rey is almost caught up to Jamie on the coloring. It's all looking very good! :) I'll post another preview sometime this week.

SKETCH A DAY 50: ROBIN
I'm working on getting caught up with my "sketch a day" since I feel behind a little with my move. I'm pretty happy with this sketch of Robin (Tim Drake). I still need some work on the feet, but they are getting easier and more natural. I'm curious to see what DC will do with Tim, now that Damien is becoming Robin.

SETTLING IN MY NEW PLACE
I've been in my new place about 5 days now and I'm just starting to feel settled. It took a while to get all the boxes and stuff away and in the right place, but I'm pretty close to being done now. Mostly it's just hanging pictures and throwing out stuff I no longer need. It feels really good to be in a new atmosphere. As I said before, I'm a little behind in my "sketch a day" schedule, but will pick up soon. I hope to scan a few tomorrow.
Last week I showed some preview sketches for a new book I'm working on with Teyo. I know it was April 1st when I posted it (April Fool's Day) but I wasn't kidding about it. Even though I said that in my post, lol, some people still didn't believe me. It's real though. I'm posting another sketch along with this entry.
I also wanted to post a colored version of the sketch I did of Alanis from NEVERMINDS last week. It was colored by none other than Rey Arzeno, the colorist on NEVERMINDS. Thanks, Rey! Now get back to coloring the book! lol, whip! Seriously though, it's cool to see how my design for Alanis will look. As I said before, all three of us (Jamie, Rey and I) are doing a design on Alanis's dress that will appear in the book. Little things like that only add to the overall book I think. :)

SKETCH A DAY 49: BLACK ORCHID
I had to stop sketching for a few days as I moved apartments this weekend. Yeah! lol. I'm so happy to be out of my old place. The new apartment is super nice and cheaper too, but I won't bore anyone with the detail. Still, with all that moving and chaos, I was able to at least get this quick sketch of Black Orchid done. It would probably look better with colors, but I still think the pose is striking, Had a lot of fun with the hair, lol.

WHAT IS ROACH?
I figured the first of this month was a good time to talk about another project I'm working on. I know it's April Fool's Day, but this isn't a joke, lol. In addition to NEVERMINDS, by the end of the year I hope to released another OGN from Drumfish Productions tentatively called ROACH. So, what is ROACH? It's something different from Drumfish. It's not superheroes. It's probably one of the darker things I've written, yet also has a lot of comedy in it. The artist and co-creator on ROACH is the talented, Teyo, who drew Templar's story in the SENTINELS Anthology. Teyo is one of my favorite artists and I am extremely happy to be working with him on this. Just looking at the preview sketches with this post, you can see what I'm talking about. I think he has the perfect style for the story. I'm excited to get this out there! And what's it all about? Well, for now, all I will say is it involves a talking roach named Bob who befriends a teenager. From there it's a wild ride, lol. Of course I'll keep posting previews as we go, but for now I just wanted to start getting the word out there. Thoughts?
