SAMANYA APPEARS ON NY TIMES GLBT POSTER

Last year I posted a photo and wrote about Phazer from Sentinels being selected as a character that represented gay and lesbian comic characters for the NY Times GLBT (gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender) Celebration. Well, this year (wi...thout my knowing about it again!) they selected Samanya from Neverminds to represent lesbian comic characters. How great is that? Of course there are higher profile characters, like Batwoman or Karma, but they were represented last year and the group decided that they wanted to spotlight different characters this year. It was also noted that they like that Samanya had a diverse background. We’ve very proud to have Samanya included in this group to help promote acceptance and equality. We put a lot of thought and consideration into to making Samanya a unique and recognizable character for many different groups and hope that she will be a character readers can relate to, no matter what their race, sex, background or sexuality is. In up-coming issues, the spotlight will shine greatly on Samanya and her role as field leader of the Neverminds team!

The art on the lesbian grouping of comic characters was drawn by Neverminds artist, Jamie Fay! The poster will be on display the entire month of June in the NY Times cafeteria.

Sentinels artist, Luciano Vecchio and Sentinels Anthology #2 artist, Josh Siegel were also asked to draw art for this project.
